Working Like Dogs wins National Award
Santa Fe, NM; June 24, 2010 – Working Like Dogs, the Internet radio series on PetLifeRadio.com, has just won second place in the News podcast category in the annual contest run by the National Federation of Press Women.
Hosted by Marcie Davis, a member of a service dog team for over 16 years and the award-winning author of Working Like Dogs: The Service Dog Guidebook, Davis began the radio show last year to answer the myriad of questions she was always being asked.
“People want to know how to obtain an assistance dog, or need information about nutrition, healthcare and retirement to better care for their own dog partners,” Davis says. “The Working Like Dogs podcasts let me provide that information so it’s available to everyone.”
Each week a new topic is presented in the 30-minute shows hosted by Davis and her service dog, Whistle. Guests on the show to date have included dog trainers, puppy raisers, veterinarians, representatives from service dog organizations, the leader of a K-9 correctional team, specialists in working dog equipment, and family members living with a service dog team.
The topics discussed have ranged from an overview of what assistance dogs do to how to cure doggie breath.

The annual National Federation of Press Women’s Communication Contest recognizes excellence in a wide variety of media. The message—how well it communicates, how it is directed to its target audience, how well it achieves its objectives—is the judging standard. In the podcast category, judges consider originality, creativity, content organization and effective communication of message.
Only first place winners from local affiliate contests may enter the national competition. Entries are judged by leaders in their fields of expertise. NFPW contest winners are honored at the NFPW Annual Communications Contest Awards Banquet.
